FAQ

Palette generator questions

How does the palette extractor work?

It reads every pixel of your image and runs median-cut color quantization, splitting the color space along its widest channels until it finds the requested number of representative colors. Each result shows how much of the image it covers.

How many colors can I extract?

Between 2 and 12 dominant colors. The Colors slider controls the count and the Precision slider trades speed for accuracy on very large or noisy images.

What export formats are available?

Copy the palette as CSS custom properties, a Tailwind v4 @theme block, or SCSS variables, or download JSON, an SVG swatch sheet, or a PNG palette image.

Are the color names generated?

Yes. Beyond the 140+ CSS named colors, every color gets a friendly, deterministic name based on its hue, lightness and saturation — like "Deep Cobalt" or "Pale Sage".
